Pentecost – Basilica di Santo Spirito – Florence

The large circular stained glass window showing the Pentecost is placed in the counterfaçade of the Augustinian Basilica of Santo Spirito in Florence. The composition occupies all the space of the surface of the stained glass window: within a rich frame stand a crowded group of figures; the Virgin, in the foreground and in central position, is surrounded by the apostles. The group welcomes the Holy Spirit, represented by a white dove, on top, within light and red flames.

Below the group, two cherubs hold the red iris, coat of arms of the city of Florence.

According to recent attributions on a stylistic basis, the work was realized on a preparatory drawing by Perugino.

The stained glass window is preserved at the Basilica di Santo Spirito in Florence.
