The exhibition that will celebrate the 500th anniversary of Perugino, from 4 March to 11 June 2023, will take place at the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria and has been presented to the public

Starting from March, 4th until June, 11st 2023, the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria in Perugia will celebrate Pietro Vannucci, “Il Meglio Mastro d’Italia” (“The best Master of Italy”), as Agostino Chigi defined him in a letter dated 7 November 1500: this will also be the title of the exhibition, which will celebrate the 500 years since Perugino’s death.

The exhibition is curated by Marco Pierini, director of the Gallery, and Veruska Picchiarelli, curator of the museum.

The exhibition will include over seventy works realized by Vannucci before 1504, a crucial year for the painter, who worked on three commissions that marked the highest point of his career: The Crucifixion of the Chigi Chapel in Sant’Agostino in Siena, the Fight between Love and Chastity already in Mantua, now at the Louvre in Paris, and the Marriage of the Virgin for the chapel of the Holy Ring in the Cathedral of Perugia, today at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Caen (France).
